Folks gain weight because they get lazy, i.e. they drive to where they could walk or bike, they go to restaurants instead of cooking at home, they go on a beach vacation instead of hiking. These lifestyle choices make a much bigger difference than the 7 daily calories cited in the article.
And, people get fat when they don’t eat like adults. I.e. eating candy and eating snacks.
Finally, adults get fat when they consume too many refined carbohydrates in the form of alcohol, soda, or fruit juice. Kids get fat though sweets and soda, adults get fat by drinking alcohol: this is a very common phenomenon.
